As a week of powerful storms passed through the region, Southern California residents faced a range of hazards including fallen trees, mudslides and widespread outages. In Woodland Hills a large tree collapsed during one of the strongest gusts, bringing down power lines and blocking an entire street. Crews worked through the night to restore electricity and clear the debris.
In foothill areas, heavy runoff carved channels through dirt slopes, sending mud across driveways and into yards. Some residents reported hearing the hillside shift during the height of the rain, a sign of how saturated the ground had become.
At least one fatality has been linked to the stormy conditions, according to early reports from local authorities. Officials continue to urge caution, noting that the ground remains unstable and that additional incidents are possible even after the rain has stopped.
