The Chargers’ defense has been under the spotlight this season — and for good reason. With the departure of Joey Bosa, Los Angeles had to reinvent its pass rush. Despite a rocky start, the team is showing signs of cohesion and competitiveness.

After Bosa’s exit, the Chargers leaned on a younger front-seven and carried a steep learning curve. Early struggles included missed opportunities, inconsistent pressure, and a lack of sacks. But as the season has progressed, new names such as Tuli Tuipulotu and Odafe Oweh have started to gel, making noticeable plays.

One recent game symbolized this shift: against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Nov. 9, the Chargers’ defense held firm, while the offense delivered enough to win. Though still imperfect in pass protection (five sacks allowed), the unit’s improved capacity to generate disruption is a promising sign.

Looking ahead, the Chargers face key tests. Their upcoming matchup versus the Jacksonville Jaguars after the bye week will reveal whether this pass rush is ready to carry postseason hopes. Meanwhile, the offense still carries injury concerns, meaning the defense may be asked to do more.

In short: Los Angeles’ pass rush is transitioning — the early chaos is giving way to structure, and if the defense can maintain this upward trend, the Chargers’ playoff aspirations remain alive.
